The past is not fixed somewhere in the corners of the brain - it is a living, breathing reality that takes shape as we revisit our own stories. Our memories are not literal truth, they are, at least in part, creative manipulations of fact. On top of every remembered event in our lives is layered a topping of dreams, myths and wishful thinking. And every time we imagine a memory, we rehearse it, editing it, adding details...
